This track for Grand Prix Legends (GPL) represents the Le Mans Circuit de la Sarthe 1968.
In 1968 the Ford Chicane was added to the circuit, just before the pit entrance, and was the first significant change to the layout since 1932. The chicane was named the Ford chicane because it was sponsored by Ford.
In 1955 the pit straight was the scene of the biggest motor racing tragedy in history, when at least 84 people died and over 120 others were injured. The chicane was designed to improve safety by reducing the speed of the cars on the pit straight, and before entering the pits.
This layout was used from 1968 to 1971, before the Porsche curves section, that bypassed Maison Blanche, was added in 1972.
This GPL version is a modification of Roland Ehnstrom’s 1967 version, which was released in 2001.
